What’s your dosha ?

What’s your dosha ?

This is a fundamental question that everyone who seeks healing through Ayurveda must find the answer to. What makes Ayurveda different is that every person is viewed as unique and each individual has his or her own set of needs. What is good for one person may be bad for another. Getting a grip on your body’s own unique fingerprint will help you make healthy choices in your diet, lifestyle and beyond.
The three doshas are made up of the five elements: ether, air, fire, water, and earth. Vata dosha is a combination of ether and air, Pitta dosha a combination of fire and water and Kapha dosha a combination of water and earth. Vata, Pitta and Kapha combine in different proportions to form an individual’s Prakriti, one’s primordial constitution.
Prakriti is determined at the time of conception. This is your body-type and will remain the same throughout your life. You may be predominantly one dosha, like Pitta, or you may be predominantly two doshas, like Vata-Pitta. Every person has all three doshas to a greater or lesser degree, thus containing all five elements within the body.

To determine your Prakriti accurately, you will need to seek the counsel of a skilled Ayurvedic practitioner.
